NOVA is a Student Support Services/TRiO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education to serve EKU students with academic potential who are the first in their family to pursue a four-year college degree and who have an economic need. The following criteria must be met for eligibility:

  • Applicants must be a first-year full-time student enrolling in a minimum of 12 credit-hours at the EKU Richmond campus.
  • Applicants must meet the NOVA academic criteria—no more than one developmental course placement and/or ACT scores that meet the EKU average scores.
  • Applicants must be a "first-generation" University learner (meaning neither parent has earned a four-year degree).
  • Applicants must demonstrate financial need (as determined by U.S. Department of Education and must apply for federal financial assistance by submitting the FAFSA.)
